Since Monday 13 May 2024, a delegation from the Cameroon National Shippers' Council (CNSC) has been on a benchmarking mission at the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment in Abuja, seeking experience for a better management of one of Cameroon's digital trade information portals dubbed "Cameroon Trade Hub". The said Ministry is the supervisory authority of the Operational Management Committee of the Nigeria Trade Information Portal to be explored during the working sessions.
CNSC's delegation was led by the Head of the Applications & Development Unit, Mr. Nguimbous Georges, and included Mr. Bion Joseph, Service Head for Transport Observatory; Mrs. Nkama Stella, Service Head for Public Relations; and Mrs. Laure Nadège Bangda, Deputy Service Head for the Monitoring Foreign Trade Procedures.
Discussions were led on the Nigerian side by the Coordinator Mr. Abdullahi Usman, and Mr. Ahmed Mamuda Zungeru the Permanent Secretary, mainly focusing on data collection methods and major challenges in setting up an operational portal. Though not compulsory for governments, it was highlighted that trade portals improve transparency and facilitate the streamlining of procedures by identifying relevant stages and formalities, making them an essential tool for public-private dialogue, which is indeed the ultimate goal of the Cameroon Trade Hub.
It is noteworthy that Nigeria's trade information portal is an initiative led by the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, in coordination with the National Trade Facilitation Committee, and is fully compliant with the provisions of Article 1.2 of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) Agreement on Trade Facilitation.
