Today, 27 September 2023, the Governor of the Far North Region, Midjiyawa Bakary, presided over the official inauguration ceremony of the newly constructed Regional Office and Trucker Accommodation Centre of the Cameroon National Shippers’ Council (CNSC) in Kousseri. This was in the presence of CNSC’s General Manager Mr. Auguste Mbappe Penda, and a host of administrative and traditional authorities of the locality.
The amenities of this facility, as well as other services, seek to promote Cameroon's foreign trade, which is one of CNSC’s key missions. In addition to offering security and safety for persons and goods bound for or leaving neighbouring countries like Chad and Nigeria, the facility will also offer solutions to other issues such as unlawful parking in public spaces; a topical problem in most towns along Cameroon’s main road corridors.
It is noteworthy that this new infrastructure will benefit the entire sub-region as it will be used by cross-border traders, and will also help to boost economic activities through the creation of employment for the youthful population of Kousseri. The CNSC Kousseri Trucker Accommodation Centre is the fourth trucker facility constructed by the CNSC since it launched a vast program for the construction of trade facilitation infrastructure in 2010.
To kick-start the activities of this new Regional Office and Trucker Accommodation Centre, a seminar will be organized on the premises tomorrow, 28 September 2023, by the CNSC department in charge of shippers’ assistance. The objective is to enlighten participants on procedures for the passage of goods through border checkpoints in the Far North Region.
