The Divisional Delegate for the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MINADER) for the Sanaga Maritime Division, Mrs. Suzanne Hill De Garde Etindele, placed the promotion of cassava farming at the heart of her awareness-raising tour which ran from Monday 24 to Friday 28 February 2025. With support from the Cameroon National Shippers' Council (CNSC), the “One Woman, One Hectare of Cassava” project was a key focus of discussions with farmers in the eleven districts within her jurisdiction.
CNSC Sub Director for Shippers' Assistance, Mrs. Armelle Makasso, underlined the importance of this government-run project which seeks to empower women in the cassava sector. Assisted by Miss Leticia Minsize (Service Head of Export Assistance) and Luc Ndob (Head of the Communication Unit), the CNSC expert reassured the ladies after a lengthy debate about the importance of the project.
Convinced, the women all agreed to sign up to the Divisional Cassava Cooperative project, an initiative that will bring together female cassava farmers in the Sanaga Maritime division which already has a cassava processing plant constructed by MINADER in Pouma.
At the end of the field trip, Mrs. Suzanne Hill De Garde Etindele expressed her satisfaction saying she was pleased with the massive mobilization of women, many of whom asked questions to better understand the need to join forces within the framework of a cooperative that will enable them to reap greater benefits from their hard work. She seized the opportunity to thank CNSC's General Manager who, through his commitment to women’s empowerment, has reassured female cassava farmers that their produce will find buyers on the international market.
