Cameroon's Minister of Transport, Jean Ernest Massena Ngalle Bibehe, and the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation of the Central African Republic (CAR), Arnaud Abazene Djoubaye, had a work session attended by the Minister Delegate to the Minister of Transport, CAR's Ambassador to Cameroon, Cameroon's Director General of Customs, CAR's Director General of Customs, representatives of the SED and the DGSN, the Deputy Director General of the Port Authority of Douala as well as Cameroonian and Central African transporters. Discussions centred on the suspension of the installation of GPS trackers by the Cameroonian Customs Department considering the high number of vehicles in line, the cancellation of demurrage and parking fee penalties at the port of Douala, the cancellation of container rental fees as well as the possibility of trucks passing through the Republic of the Congo.
At the end of the meeting, both parties agreed that Cameroon Customs will systematically suspend GPS installation, except for sensitive goods. Likewise, CAR's Minister set the cost of transporting goods at 3,350,000 CFA francs, as requested by Cameroonian transporters. The consignees agree to grant a discount on demurrage on a case-by-case basis. However, perishable goods shall only be cleared at the Port of Douala. Finally, the Central African Minister reassured Cameroonian transporters that traffic would resume on the Douala-Bangui corridor and that they will be guarded as they ply the corridor.
