The Cameroon National Shippers’ Council (CNSC) once again reaffirmed its commitment to promoting private investment and the development of the national industrial base. On 2 October 2026 in Yaounde, the institution took part in the signing ceremony of the agreement on the eligibility for the private investment incentive scheme between the State of Cameroon, represented by the Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Investment Promotion Agency (APME) and SAPOU INDUSTRIES SARL.
The ceremony was chaired by the General Manager of APME, Jean Marie Louis BADGA, and brought together several personalities including Prof. Jean-Pierre FOGUI, former Minister Delegate at the Ministry of Justice, Keeper of the Seals; traditional rulers; elements of the forces of law and order; APME officials; CNSC representatives and the promoters of SAPOU INDUSTRIES SARL.
Through this agreement, the company aims to construct an industrial plant in Douala for the production of soap, with a capacity of 500 kg per hour. The project is worth an investment of 1.334 billion CFA francs and is expected to create 96 direct jobs and more than 150 indirect jobs.
This initiative forms part of the drive to promote import substitution by strengthening local production and developing Cameroon’s industrial sector. This approach is welcomed by the CNSC, whose General Manager was represented at the ceremony by Mr. Philippe Olivier BOB OWONO, Head of the CNSC Centre Region Office.
In his address, the CNSC representative reaffirmed the institution’s willingness to support SAPOU INDUSTRIES SARL in the implementation of this project. This support will focus mainly on facilitating operations and procedures for the clearance of goods at the port, in line with CNSC’s goals pertaining to business persons.
