Reading from Business in Cameroon, between 2018 and 2021, the total sum of revenue collected by the South II customs sector, which covers the Kribi deep seaport, amounted to CFAF 300 billion. Figures revealed during the 2021 evaluation meeting held on 28 March 2022 in the coastal city of Kribi showed that customs performance has increased tenfold over a period of four years.
Customs revenue which stood at 16 billion CFA francs in 2018 had reached 163 billion CFA francs in 2021 (consolidated figure after the 150 billion CFA francs initially announced, editor's note). With such a performance, the South II customs sector now ranks 2nd in terms of customs revenue collection nationwide, behind the Littoral I sector covering the port of Douala in the country's economic capital.
For the year 2021 alone, the South II customs sector has more than doubled its performance, from CFAF 74 billion in 2020 to CFAF 163 billion a year later. This performance is explained by the double increase in containerised traffic at the Kribi deep seaport in 2021, following the upturn in economic activities after the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. Authorities of the Port Authority of Kribi (PAK) confirm that 81,771 containers passed through this port in 2021, up by 114% year-on-year.
