The Cameroon National Shippers’ Council (CNSC) was delighted to host the Chairman of the Union of African Shippers’ Councils (UASC), Mr. William Kazumba Mayombo, who is in Cameroon for a four-day working visit. He was received at CNSC’s head office for a brief working session today, 6 December 2022, by Mr. Younouss Soungui, CNSC Deputy General Manager.
Having newly ascended to the helm of the UASC, the Chairman who is on his maiden visit to the CNSC saw it an occasion to learn more about CNSC’s missions. CNSC Directors for Trade Facilitation and Assistance to Shippers, Mr. Alex Nkondje and Mrs. Claire Onana, took turns in throwing more light on the various partnerships, infrastructural and capacity-building activities undertaken by the CNSC and aimed at promoting trans-Cameroon transport corridors and its foreign trade. Both Directors provided more details on a number of training workshops, the construction of trucker accommodation centres, warehouses and border control posts, as well as the setting up of a trade information portal, just to name a few.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. William Kazumba stressed on the importance of collaboration between sister councils of the Union. “We must share our experiences to be able to better overcome the challenges we face”, he remarked. This is in line with the recommendations of the Union of African Shippers’ Councils (UASC) which encourages collaboration between African states in training, capacity building, monitoring and evaluation, data collection among others.
The UASC delegation, which also included Mr. Kasongo Medi (Sub-Director for Trade Facilitation at OGEFREM), commended CNSC’s Management for the remarkable achievements and acknowledged the true African hospitality accorded them during their stay in Cameroon. The most outstanding tweak of the entire visit was a tour of the Douala Maritime Museum where the guests had a peek of Cameroon's colonial and maritime history. The day ended with a tour of CNSC’s ECTN issuance facilities.
