The 17th edition of the National Bilingualism Week, under the theme “Bilingualism, a catalyst to social cohesion within the context of decentralization”, was launched in Ngaoundere, Adamawa Region, last Monday and runs from 31 January to 4 February 2022. This key policy adopted by the government of Cameroon is enshrined in Law No. 2019/019 of 24 December 2019 on the promotion of official languages in Cameroon.
Addressing the Ministries of Basic and Secondary Education before the launch of activities, the President of the National Commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism, Peter Mafany Musonge, said “on the occasion of the implementation of this major activity which is of linguistic, cultural and political interest, the NCPBM wishes to extend its encouragement to the two main ministries involved in this rewarding strategy of promoting our official languages”, and also seized the opportunity to urge other private and public entities, to redouble their efforts in contributing to the implementation of the national policy on the promotion of official languages in Cameroon.
The Cameroon National Shippers’ Council (CNSC), an administrative public establishment, unceasingly promotes bilingualism and multiculturalism by strictly implementing recommended actions as it ensures all its publications (The Shipper’s Newsletter, The CNSC Statistical Book, CNCC News, The National Transport Year Book, etc.) and websites are made available to the public in both official languages, English and French.
