CAMEROON NATIONAL
SHIPPERS' COUNCIL

Discussions during an important meeting held at the head office of the Cameroon National Shippers' Council (CNSC) today 28 May 2024 focused on the port congestion tax soon to be applied at the Kribi Container Terminal (KCT).

Chaired by Mr. Fernand Douglas Nolga, CNSC's Director for Trade Facilitation and Transports Observatory, the meeting was an opportunity for the Managing Director of KCT, Mr. David Azra, shippers and other foreign trade actors to discuss this new measure, to be implemented in the coming weeks.

The purpose was mainly to explain the benefits of this new reform, which is designed to speed up operations at the quay side, reduce delays and maintain fluidity at the port. The new penalty, which has already been approved by the National Ports Authority, will apply only to imported containers that spend more than 15 days at the port of Kribi. The amounts payable will be the same as those levied at the Douala Container Terminal.

Considering the urgent need to address congestion issues at the Kribi Container Terminal, the CNSC is inviting shippers to better anticipate on import procedures in order to avoid paying this penalty.
