Following yesterday's opening ceremony, Day-2 of the 9th African Shippers' Day holding in Lagos, Nigeria, was marked by a series of workshops on various themes. It was in this light that the Cameroon National Shippers' Council (CNSC) took part in the workshop on "Payment systems in international trade" moderated by Mr. Nwachukwu Remigus, Director of Trade and Finance at AFREXIMBANK. 

In his presentation, Mr. Wilfried Deudjuï, Head of the Development and Applications Unit at the Cameroon National Shippers' Council (CNSC), gave an overview of the use of payment systems in international trade within Cameroon. Payment systems in Cameroon are continuously evolving and the aim is to provide utmost satisfaction to business persons in their import-export activities. This is how Cameroon has been able to successfully move from manual payment systems to electronic payments. At the CNSC, mobile money payment options have been adopted to complement existing payment methods (cash and bank transfers) already being used by shippers.

During the discussions, panellists focused on facilities offered by AFREXIMBANK to promote intra-African trade and the introduction of the PAPSS (Pan-African Payment and Settlement System) as a medium of exchange to facilitate payments in Africa.
