Nigeria's Dr. Paul Adalikwu elected SG of MOWCA in Accra, Ghana

The 16th General Assembly of the Maritime Organisation of West and Central Africa (MOWCA) held from 16 to 18 November 2021, was marked by the appointment of the new Secretary General of this organisation. The current Director of Maritime Safety and Security at the Federal Ministry of Transport in Nigeria who has a four-year mandate, is replacing the Angolan Alain Michel Luvambano, who served ten years in this position.

"Thank you for unanimously electing me. I have nothing to say other than to immediately start working towards reviving our organisation and I will not disappoint you," said the newly elected official. The new SG is under enormous pressure as he takes office at a time when his organisation needs new impetus to face current challenges.

He is now charged with the heavy responsibility of coordinating the activities of the different organs specialised in the supervision of ports, shippers and shipowners. These include the Port Management Association of West and Central Africa (PMAWCA), the Union of African Shippers' Councils (UASC) and the African Shippinglines Association (3A).

The Secretary General shall coordinate the activities of the following three specialised units: ports, shippers and operators, through the Port Management Association of West and Central Africa (PMAWCA), the Union of African Shippers' Councils (UASC) and the African Shippinglines Association (3A), respectively.
