CAMEROON NATIONAL
SHIPPERS' COUNCIL

The Cameroon National Shippers’ Council (CNSC) welcomed a delegation from the British High Commission in Cameroon on Wednesday
6 December 2023.  This was at the CNSC head office building in Douala.

The UK delegation was headed by Mr. Ryan Maclean, Head of UK Trade Policy in Africa, who was accompanied by Michael Tchenga, Country Director for Business and Trade, and Maxime Buma, Trade Adviser at the British High Commission. The purpose of their visit was to gain insight on operational procedures for importing into Cameroon and exporting from the country.

The General Manager being unavoidably absent, the UK delegation was received by a CNSC team led by Mr. Tsaguim Elvis, Director for Operations and Projects. He presented the CNSC’s mastery of Cameroon’s foreign trade procedures with the creation of the Cameroon Trade Hub accessible via www.cameroontradehub.cm which provides an overview of import and export procedures in Cameroon, the applicable legal frameworks, trade statistics and templates of the various procedural documents.

It was also an opportunity to elaborate on the implication of the CNSC in the successful clearing of the first import consignment (resins from Tunisia) shipped to Cameroon, and exports to other African countries (tea and safou to Ghana) under the AfCFTA regime, as well as the assistance offered by the CNSC to some 10 Cameroonian SMEs sponsored to present their products at the Intra-Africa Trade Fair organised in Cairo - Egypt in November 2023.

Amongst the key recommendations that emerged was the sharing of trade statistics and experiences. The meeting ended with a visit to the CWEIC Hub hosted at the head office of the CNSC, to the great delight of the UK delegation.
