The flag hoisting ceremony to launch celebrations of the 2024 Commonwealth Day took place on 4 March 2024, and was presided over by the Minister Delegate to the Minister of External Relations in charge of Cooperation with the Commonwealth, H.E. Felix Mbayu, at the esplanade of the Ministry of External Relations. The ceremony was attended by High Commissioners of Commonwealth nations accredited to Cameroon, some members of government, and top-ranking officials of State establishments amongst whom Mr. Auguste Mbappe Penda, General Manager of the Cameroon National Shippers’ Council (CNSC).

The theme of this year’s celebration - "One Resilient Common Future" – underlines the long lasting and firm networks of friendship and goodwill existing between the governments and people of the 56 Commonwealth nations. These are nations which, by virtue of their shared values, have resolved to work together with a view to address common challenges, while promoting and achieving common goals.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Minister Delegate to the Minister of External Relations in charge of Cooperation with the Commonwealth, H.E. Felix Mbayu, underlined that the week-long activities organized during the Commonwealth Week will serve as a platform for Cameroon to shed more light on national development projects and aspirations that resonate with this year’s theme.

Activities slated for this week-long celebration include conferences, symposiums, exhibitions and interschool competitions.
