The Director General of the Autonomous Port of Douala, Cyrus Ngo’o, and the Director of the English company KTH signed an agreement for the construction, of a new terminal before retrocession to PAD. The construction of a new 427 billion CFA francs terminal with a surface area of 42 hectares brought together the PAD and the English company KTH in Douala. 

According to the terms of the agreement, the KTH group will build two “mixed bulk terminals with 900 linear metres of quay on the right bank of the Wouri River in the Port of Douala–Bonabéri“. The Port of Douala-Bonabéri currently has 8 terminals: container, timber, fruit, fishing, ore, general cargo, industrial and oil. In addition to these technical areas, there is a long-stay storage area, a naval dispatch centre and a ship handling facility.

The BOT agreement, financing entirely sought by the promoter without the endorsement or guarantee of the Autonomous Port of Douala, signed between Cyrus Ngo’o and the partner, concerns a project which “is part of the vast process of physical transformation of the Douala-Bonabéri port complex through the renovation, modernisation and development of the capacity to receive and handle goods”.

The new terminal will be built in two phases. The first phase includes 450 ml of quay; silos with a total capacity of 30,000 tonnes, a road and a railway, a weighing station, a maintenance workshop; a 200 m² R+3 administrative building; an electricity supply station; a fire-fighting system; an equipped car park; three warehouses of 2,000, 3,000 and 10,500 m²; a storage area, etc.

In the second phase, there will be a 450-metre-long quay; silos with a combined capacity of 30,000 tonnes, continued from phase I; a road and railway, a weighing station continued from phase I; a maintenance workshop (continued from phase I); a 200-square-metre three-storey office building; a power supply station; an extension of the fire-fighting system; an extension of the equipped car park; the construction of additional warehouses; an extension of the storage area; and others.
