During a meeting held on 19 December 2022, member States of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) ratified the decision not to organise the 13th Ministerial Conference of this institution in Cameroon in 2024, as announced in June 2022 by the Minister of Trade, Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana, at the end of the 12th edition of these meetings in Geneva, the Swiss capital.
Thanks to an "arrangement" between Cameroon and the United Arab Emirates, we learn in an official message from the WTO, that the 13th edition will be held in Abu Dhabi in February 2024. Cameroon will be hosting the 14th edition, the date of which is yet to be announced.
The WTO ministerial conference is a world-class event, often hosting thousands of delegates and international trade actors from 164 member countries. It is during this high-level meeting that WTO members discuss policies and reforms on global trade. The organization of this meeting in Cameroon is considered to be a great diplomatic achievement by the authorities.
