On 9 May 2024, the General Manager of the Cameroon National Shippers' Council (CNSC), Mr. Auguste Mbappe Penda, toured the localities of Barndake and Gashiga in the Benue Division with a view to better understand the realities of shippers carrying goods through the North Region.
Located close to the Cameroon-Nigeria border, these towns are major routes for cross-border trade between the two countries. The tour, during which CNSC's General Manager was accompanied by some close collaborators, was an opportunity for him to meet with the District Officer for Mayo-Hourna, and staff at the main customs office in Barndake. He also held a meeting with staff at the CNSC office in Gashiga, where he made some firm recommendations for better efficiency.
The two 5-hectare sites earmarked for the construction of a CNSC warehouse and trucker accommodation centre in the North Region come 2025 were also visited during the tour. These are projects for which the Lamido of Demsa expressed great expectations when he received Mr. August Mbappe Penda and his delegation later that afternoon.
At the Lamidat of Demsa, CNSC’s General Manager was made a notable of the Demsa community by His Majesty El Hadj Aboubakar Moustapha, in recognition of the CNSC's contribution to the development of the town. The ceremony was crowned by a symbolic ritual and cultural performances at the esplanade of the Lamidat.
