Women from the Cameroon National Shippers’ Council (CNSC) took part in the first international conference of African women in the maritime and port sector, held from 29 to 31 May 2024 at the Best Western Hotel in Douala.
The conference was organised by the association Women in Maritime in Africa (WIMAFRICA) under the theme “The inclusion of women in the development of a sustainable maritime industry for a prosperous Africa”.
At the opening ceremony chaired by Mr. Moussa Djafarou, Inspector General at the Ministry of Transport, CNSC’s General Manager and Honorary President of WIMAFRICA-Cameroon, Mr. Auguste Mbappe Penda, was congratulated for his long-standing commitment to the promotion of women's leadership and the development of WIMA-CAMEROON. The congratulations were expressed by a loud applause and in a speech by Mrs. Akuélé Yevona Adanlete Lawson, the continental president of WIMAFRICA.
Delegations from Togo, Gabon, Mozambique, Morocco and Côte d'Ivoire also took part in the proceedings, on the sidelines of which WIMAFRICA also held its General Assembly.
This conference which brought together African women of the maritime sector mainly seeks to promote the blue economy.
