The launching ceremony of the 3rd edition of the international banana-plantain festival, which took place on 6 December 2024 in Douala, was marked by the signing of a three-year tacitly renewable partnership agreement.
This was the materialisation of the commitment of Mr. Auguste Mbappe Penda and Mr. Tony Obam, respectively General Manager of the Cameroon National Shippers' Council (CNSC) and President of the Cameroon National Association of Actors of the Banana-Plantain Sector (FBPC), to work together towards achieving the objectives of import substitution policy.
The signing was witnessed by members of the government, notably Mr. Gabriel Mbairobe, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, personal representative of the President of the Republic of Cameroon, H.E. Paul Biya. Also present was the Minister of Transport Mr. Jean Ernest Massena Ngalle Bibehe, the Minister of Labour and Social Security Mr. Grégoire Owona and the Minister of Youth and Civic Education Mr. Mounouna Foutsou, as well as former Brazilian and Cameroonian football stars.
The purpose of this agreement is to create a collaboration platform between both parties. This platform should contribute to the promotion of the import-substitution policy through the provision of assistance and support to actors of the banana-plantain sector in Cameroon, a key mission of the CNSC which is a major player in the promotion of Cameroon's foreign trade.
