CAMEROON NATIONAL
SHIPPERS' COUNCIL

Daniel Ona Ondo, president of the CEMAC Commission (Cameroon, Central African Republic, Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea and Chad), has just launched a call for tenders to recruit a firm that will carry out a study on the construction of a single border control post in Kyé-Ossi, Cameroon. This is the town still known as the "tri-border zone", as it links Cameroon, Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

The project's objective can be summed up by the following: facilitating transport and transit; facilitating intra-community trade; and strengthening sub-regional integration. Thus, thanks to this border control post, all transit-related formalities will be carried out at the same location. The facility will have buildings, a weighing station, a scanner, warehouses and inspection/visit areas for goods, car parks and fences, etc.

The call to tender states that at the end of this study, the CEMAC Commission will be provided with a portfolio of companies that will be selected for the construction of the facility and the acquisition of the equipment required for its operation. Interested consultancy firms must provide, in French, information demonstrating that they have the required qualifications and relevant experience for the execution of the project. All tenders must be submitted no later than 16 January 2023.

The town of Kye-Ossi is doubly strategic. Not only is it a link between the three above-mentioned countries, but it is also home to an important market for food products that supply Gabon and Equatorial Guinea. A single border post in this area would greatly facilitate cross-border trade.
