CAMEROON NATIONAL
SHIPPERS' COUNCIL

The newly appointed High Commissioner of Great Britain to the Republic of Cameroon, His Excellency Barry Lowen, was in Douala today Friday 27 October 2023 for an official visit to the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC) Hub for Cameroon and Gabon hosted at the Cameroon National Shippers’ Council (CNSC).

He was received by the Chairman of the CWEIC Hub and General Manager of the CNSC, Mr. Auguste Mbappe Penda, alongside the Country Director, Mr. Cham Etienne Bama.

It was an opportunity for the British diplomat and his delegation to learn more about what the CWEIC Hub is doing for Cameroonian businesses and the role of the Cameroon National Shippers’ Council (CNSC), a pioneer CWEIC strategic partner in Cameroon, in the facilitation of trade in its local context.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Cham Etienne Bama gave a rundown of the various activities of the Hub and how much the CNSC is doing to tag along other strategic partners in this move to integrate the Commonwealth market. Emphasis was laid on trade facilitation infrastructures and potential sectors that could interest foreign investors.

H.E. Barry Lowen, quite delighted with all he had learned, congratulated the CNSC for all the initiative it is taking and all the assistance it is providing to the CWEIC Hub. He traced trade ties Cameroon shares with Commonwealth member states underling the interdependence that now characterizes economic ties in one simple phrase: “if you succeed, we all succeed”.

Note that the CWEIC Hub for Cameroon and Gabon which is currently hosted at the CNSC head office was officially opened in early April 2023 by CWEIC Chairman Lord Jonathan Peter Marland. The Hub now serves as a collaboration platform between the business community of Cameroon and Gabon with other Commonwealth member states.
