The Minister of Transport, Jean Ernest Massena Ngallè Bibéhè, accompanied by Zakariaou Njoya, Minister Delegate at the same ministry, presided over the launching ceremony of the first caisson for phase 2 of the construction of this port complex on Saturday 22 October 2022.
The ceremony was attended by the Governor of the South Region, the Senior Divisional Officer for the Ocean Division, the Mayor of the city, the CEO of China Harbor Engineering Company (CHEC), the General Managers of the National Ports Authority (NPA), the Port Authority of Kribi (PAK), the Cameroon National Shippers' Council (CNSC), as well as stakeholders in the port sector and traditional authorities.
This ceremony marked an important step in the extension of this port facility. The first caisson left the prefabrication area today. The construction site, adjacent to the existing quays and terminals, will eventually provide a new quay connected to the container terminals of phase 1. This quay will include a 70,000-tonne container zone and a 100,000-tonne container zone for a total quay length of 715 metres. The installation of the first caissons sets the stage for the smooth implementation of the project. The concrete caissons will serve as the foundation for the new quays under construction. Together, they will form the dividing wall between sea and land.
It is important to remember that the Kribi deep-sea port launched its activities in March 2018. This port, which is a result of the President of the Republic, Paul BIYA's policy of great achievements, has become the centre for Cameroon's new industrialisation ambitions and the logistic hub for the economies of countries in the Central African sub-region.
