CAMEROON NATIONAL
SHIPPERS' COUNCIL

On 23 June 2021, the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) will host a webinar themed   “The Ocean Life and Livelihoods – The Role of IMO in Ocean Governance.” Organised in celebration of the United Nations World Oceans Day, which this year is themed 'The Ocean: Life and Livelihoods', the webinar will highlight some of the issues and high-level perspectives that the global community is facing in its efforts to sustainably use and manage our oceans, and link this to IMO's integral role.

All delegations to IMO and IMO Secretariat members, as well as staff members the UMM, IMLI, IOPC Funds and IMSO are welcome to participate in the upcoming virtual conference.

In recent years, issues related to the oceans and their governance have been given more and more importance notably through the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Specific Sustainable Development Goal 14 on aquatic life (SDG 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development).

The work of the IMO, which is the United Nations specialised agency with responsibility for the safety and security of shipping and the prevention of marine and atmospheric pollution by ships are both directly and indirectly linked to most ocean-related processes and their governance.

For technical reasons, delegations are advised to register only one representative who will be able to participate directly in the seminar which will take place on Zoom. The seminar will also be broadcast live on the IMODOCS online broadcast platform.
