International Security was at the heart of discussions at the workshop held in Yaoundé from 12 to 14 September 2023, on the implementation of Resolution 1540 adopted by the United Nations Security Council on 28 April 2004.
This resolution, adopted in the wake of the terrorist attacks in the United States on 11 September 2001, enabled the Security Council to affirm that the proliferation of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons and their means of delivery constituted a threat to international peace and security.
At the initiative of the Cameroonian government in partnership with France and the United States, and under the guidance and assistance of UN experts, participants of the three-day workshop had to assimilate the provisions of Resolution 1540, take stock of national efforts (laws, regulations, institutional frameworks, etc.) to implement it, and draw up a voluntary national action plan to ensure optimal implementation.
CNSC Centre Regional Branch Manager Mr. Owono Bob Philippe Olivier, accompanied by Mr. MBENG Rodrigue Samuel, Service Head for Shippers' Assistance, represented the Cameroon National Shippers' Council at this workshop, equally attended by other representatives of Cameroonian institutions including the Ministries of External Relations, Defense, Territorial Administration, Transport, Finance, Mines, Industry and Technological Development, the National Ports Authority, the Port Authority of Kribi and the Port Authority of Douala, among others.
