The very first international symposium on maritime insurance organised by the Cameroon National Shippers’ Council (CNSC) is underway after its official launch in the city of Kribi on 21 June 2023 by the Minister of Transport, Mr. Jean Ernest Massena Ngale Bibehe. Under the coordination of CNSC’s General Manager, Mr. Auguste Mbappe Penda, the symposium themed the Challenges of Maritime Insurance in African Countries features a plethora of renowned experts invited by the CNSC to throw light on pertinent issues in marine insurance.
Participants at the symposium are honoured to learn and also share ideas with gurus of the domain. Over the first two days of the international symposium, the panel presented and exchanged ideas on pertinent issues such as trends in the marine insurance market in Africa, the limits of compensation for marine claims outside a cargo insurance policy, insurance against new maritime risks, amongst others. These were elaborated upon using real-life incidents such as the Ever-Given incident in the Suez Canal which crippled global trade in 2021.
This initiative of the CNSC has been saluted by both the experts and their audience who look forward to being thrilled with even more instructive discussions on Day 3 with Prof. Philippe Delebecque, Prof. Martin Ndende, Dr. Serge Azebaze and Barrister Chawky Mahbouli, just to name a few.
