CAMEROON NATIONAL
SHIPPERS' COUNCIL

The 2nd edition of the international symposium organised by the Cameroon National Shippers’ Council themed “Relevance of general average in the settlement of marine claims”, was officially launched today, 25 June 2025, in the coastal city of Kribi under the chairmanship of the Minister Delegate to the Minister of Transport, Mr. Njoya Zakariaou.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, CNSC’s General Manager Mr. Auguste Mbappe Penda underlined that this edition “seeks to enable shippers to better protect themselves from prohibitive costs resulting from the non-insurance or underinsurance of goods in the event of major disasters which could sometimes lead to cases of general average.

Participants from Ghana, Togo, Burkina Faso and Gabon, had the opportunity to learn and discuss with national and international experts on different panels. Day one of this event featured two panels which elaborated on “the global framework for general average in maritime law’ and “Damage assessment for compensation in general average claims”. The symposium continues tomorrow with other insightful discussions.
