The implementation of the Import Verification Programme (IVP) was the talking point of a meeting held today, 20 March 2024, and chaired by the Director General of Customs, Mr. Edwin Fongod Nuvaga. Discussions at the meeting, which was attended by stakeholders involved in the implementation of the programme and senior officials of the Customs Department, mainly focused on shortcomings observed in pre-clearance formalities.
The Import Verification Programme (IVP) is a tool designed to tackle corruption in Customs operations, improving on the collection of taxes by Customs officials as it will provide them with information on the taxable value of goods. This programme is quite different from the Pre-Shipment Evaluation of Conformity Programme (PECAE) for imports into Cameroon, currently run by the Standards and Quality Agency (ANOR).
Held in the conference room of the Directorate General of Customs, this working session is a concrete demonstration of the "partnership" sought for and highlighted during the celebration of the 2024 edition of International Customs Day.
