On 28 May 2024, in Yaoundé, the Prime Minister and Head of Government, Chief Dr Joseph Dion Ngute, officially launched the 3rd African Rail Digital Congress under the theme "Digital, a challenge to boost the rail value chain".
The ceremony was attended by several members of government, representatives of diplomatic missions, experts and guests. Also present was Mr. Auguste Mbappe Penda, General Manager of the Cameroon National Shippers' Council (CNSC).
Speaking at the event, the Prime Minister reminded participants that Cameroon has a favourable ecosystem for the digitalisation of rail transport. This is reflected in the National Railway Master Plan and its various achievements.
This Congress was organised by the International Union of Railways (UIC), in collaboration with CAMRAIL and with technical support from the Ministry of Transport. Prior to wishing the 3-day event great success, participants were reminded that the Yaoundé Congress holding in Cameroon comes after those held in South Africa in 2019 and Tunisia in 2022.
In this era marked by sweeping digital transformation, the keynote speakers focused their presentations on the importance of digital transformation in rail transport. The goal being to improve rail services and boost profitability.
