Since 22 August 2023, staff in charge of curatorial care and documentation at the Douala Maritime Museum have been carrying out preliminary work towards giving the museum’s exhibition rooms a new look.
This exercise involves finding new locations for exhibitions, identifying suitable types of storage, proposing a working methodology and drawing up a list of requirements for inventory control.
Additionally, a complete review of existing documentation, registers and inventory sheets is equally envisaged.
All these actions will ultimately improve the safety, conservation and documentation of the Douala Maritime Museum's collections. Mitambo Poupe Zo Flavie Sorelle and Njipdounke Ngachili Fadimatu, interns from the Department of Museology and Heritage Sciences at the Nkongsamba Institute of Fine Arts, are playing an active role in this exercise.
