The official launch of the Commonwealth Local Government Conference (CGLC) organised under the theme Building Local Resilience across the Commonwealth, took place today Tuesday 14 November 2023 at the Kigali Convention Centre in Rwanda. The ceremony was chaired by Rwanda’s Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Dr. Edouard Ngirente, who expressed his delight to receive Africa’s local government authorities in Kigali.
Cameroon’s delegation to this very influential meeting, which includes delegates from the Cameroon National Shippers’ Council (CNSC), is headed by the Minister of Decentralisation and Local Development, Hon. Georges Elanga Obam, who doubles as Vice-Chair of the CLGF.
Over the next three days, delegates from across Commonwealth member States will be discussing on necessary actions to consolidate their resilience in the face of some global issues such as climate change, gender equality, local economic development and migration, amongst others.
Some delegates from Cameroon, including the General Manager of FEICOM Mr. Philippe Camille Akoa, will have the opportunity to sit at plenary sessions. This will be an opportunity for the world to learn more about all that Cameroon and its decentralized territorial communities are doing to build a resilient and sustainable future for its people.
Day 1 of the conference ended with a visit by the Rwandan Prime Minister to Cameroon’s stand showcasing some products “Made in Cameroon”.
