Trade resumes in Amchide, Far North Region

Cross-border trade between Cameroon and Nigeria has picked up again. Traders now travel safely through Amchide for supplies. Truck-loads of goods now pass through Amchide to many Central and West African countries via Nigeria. “It is noteworthy that Amchide is also an important gateway to Chad. This is why the area is teeming with transit operations that create several economic-related activities, which boost the local economy in all the localities involved in this activity” Mr. Boubakari Abdoulaye, Far North Regional Delegate for Trade said.

The Cameroon-Nigeria border remained closed for security reasons since 2014 amid the war against terrorists from the Islamist sect that crippled the economy of the area. This situation largely caused most inhabitants to flee to other areas. The situation has changed remarkably in recent months. Security is no longer a problem thanks to the efforts of the defence and security forces. Reassured on a daily basis by the traditional and administrative authorities the inhabitants of the area go about their various activities.
