Today, 21 October 2024, the Minister of Transport, Mr. Jean Ernest Massena Ngalle Bibehe, officially launched the national workshop organised by the Cameroon National Shippers' Council (CNSC) on the theme "The IMO liability and compensation regime".
ÂÂ
Taking place in Yaoundé with technical assistance from the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), the workshop seeks to identify the shortcomings of the existing legal and regulatory framework in Cameroon relating to large-scale damage and disasters.
ÂÂ
Speaking at the opening ceremony, CNSC's General Manager, Mr. Auguste Mbappe Penda, underlined that this workshop is a logical continuation of the international symposium on the Challenges of Maritime Insurance in African Countries organised by the CNSC in the coastal city of Kribi in June 2023.
ÂÂ
The two IMO experts invited to deliver presentations at the workshop include Mr. Jan Engels de Boer and Mrs. Aïcha Cherrif, respectively Senior Legal Officer and Legal Officer at the IMO. About 50 participants are actively taking part in the workshop discussions which will run until 25 October 2024.
