Cameroon’s Delegation Stands-out at 2023CLGC

Scheduled from 14 to 17 November 2023 at the Kigali Convention Centre in Rwanda, the Commonwealth Local Government Conference fully kicked off with a plenary session on 15 November where Cameroon’s Minister of Decentralisation and Local Development, Honorable Georges Elanga Obam, presented some challenges of Commonwealth nations and their efforts to overcome them.

The Cameroonian statesman gave a rundown of policies and actions taken by the government of Cameroon to promote sustainable development and attain SDGs. Details were given by Mr. Anthony Mvo, Vice-President of the United Councils and Cities of Cameroon (UCCC), during a working group session looking at local economic development from a bottom-up perspective. The latter called for an increased inclusion of local communities in the choice of local development projects and the institution of measures to guarantee their continuity in the event of a change of mandate.

Further valorizing Cameroon’s participation, the General Manager of the Special Council Support Fund for Mutual Assistance (FEICOM) had the opportunity to present FEICOM’s activities in council funding. Note was taken of the recent partnership signed with the State Audit to ensure transparency in fund management and the timely production of financial statements.

An intervention by Mr. Njume Randolph, Service Head for Translation at the Cameroon National Shippers’ Council (CNSC), further showed how much Cameroon was fully engaged in the development process through the activities of autonomous state-owned establishments such as the CNSC in local communities and cities.
