The Minister of Transport, Mr Jean Ernest Massena Ngalle Bibehe, granted audience to a delegation of experts from the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) who travelled to Cameroon for a national workshop on the liability and compensation conventions of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) organised in Yaoundé by the Cameroon National Shippers' Council (CNSC).
The delegation, led by CNSC's General Manager Mr. Auguste Mbappe Penda, included Mr. Jan Engels De Boer and Mrs. Aïcha Cherrif, respectively Senior Legal Officer and Legal Officer at the IMO. While inviting the Minister of Transport to take part in the work of the IMO General Assembly scheduled for December 2025, the IMO experts expressed their commitment to accompanying Cameroon at every stage of the process of drafting and adopting the legal instruments of this international institution.
In return, the Minister of Transport reiterated Cameroon's determination to collaborate with the IMO in setting up conventions on liability and compensation in the maritime transport sector. The Minister hopes that Cameroon will respond responsibly and effectively to cases of marine pollution, maritime accidents or disasters involving ships. This should ensure better management and development of the country's maritime heritage.
The audience ended on a positive note for Minister Jean Ernest Massena Ngalle Bibehe, who wished the IMO experts a pleasant stay in Cameroon.
