On the sidelines of their training seminar, 37 officers from twenty countries explored Cameroon's maritime history on Saturday 19 September 2026.

This visit took place on the margins of the training seminar for military advisers, launched on 14 September at Onomo Hotel in Bonanjo under the auspices of the Ministry of Defence.

Welcomed by Mr. Vincent Mbock, Service Head at the Museum, these special guests toured the various exhibitions; from traditional Sawa canoes to Cameroon’s contemporary history, through the discovery of prawns, the slave trade and colonial treaties,  to the country’s maritime history.

A highlight of this immersive experience was the second exhibition dedicated to the maritime world. To the surprise of the visitors, Mahfoudh Raies Bouzgarrou, a Tunisian Navy officer, gave a brilliant presentation, accurately detailing the names and functions of the various parts of a ship, earning the admiration of his peers.

At the end of the visit, the military advisers made their way to the museum’s terrace to enjoy a panoramic view of the Port of Douala, before watching a documentary film on the construction of the legendary dugout canoe on display at the museum's lobby.
Clearly satisfied with the tour, the visitors left with a greater understanding of Cameroon and its rich culture and maritime heritage.
