A meeting was convened today, 26 March 2024, at the head office of the Cameroon National Shippers' Council (CNSC) to discuss complaints raised by shippers regarding malfunctions on the CAMCIS platform and the double invoicing of Customs Brokerage Fees (HAD).
The meeting which was chaired by the CNSC's Director for Trade Facilitation and Transport Observatory, Mr. Fernand Nolga, was equally attended by Mr. Raymond Ekwembwe (representative of the Head of the Littoral 1 Customs Sector), Mr. Eddin Mbottey (representative of the Head of the Cameroon Customs IT Division), licensed customs brokers, and some disgruntled shippers (SOREPCO, TRACTAFRIC EQUIPMENT, Bernabe Cameroun).
The shippers present at the meeting highlighted a series of problems including: the payment of vehicle transfer duties for new vehicles and the systematic request for additional codes by the DGD4, the double invoicing of customs brokerage fees for the direct removal of goods, costly warehousing services which penalizes shippers, and delays in customs clearance procedures due to recurrent malfunctions of the CAMCIS platform.
Discussions at the meeting culminated in the elaboration of some ten recommendations. CNSC's Director for Trade Facilitation and Transport Observatory promised convening other meetings to follow up on the implementation of these recommendations.
