On Friday, 30 January 2026, the Douala Maritime Museum (DMM) launched its special youth programme, organised as a build-up to the celebration of National Youth Day. The first group of students received for this year's edition were Class 5 and Class 6 students of Groupe Scolaire Bilingue la Roche, Douala. Led during their tour by museum staff, these children engaged in interactive activities aimed at piquing their curiosity and awakening their understanding of Cameroon’s maritime world.
They experienced the navigation simulator and the Storm Room, and also discovered historical documents such as treaties signed during the colonial era, earlier maps of Cameroon during German colonization and images of the first Cameroonian navy officers. This special youth programme at the DMM aligns with the museum's commitment to share knowledge and give value to the national maritime heritage among youths.
Now launched, the youth programme will continue throughout the month of February 2026. The doors of the Douala Maritime Museum remain open for other schools in the city of Douala and its environs.
