SHIPPERS' COUNCIL

A capacity-building workshop for members of the Ad-Hoc Sub-Committee in charge of facilitating the implementation of the Guided Trade Initiative was organized today, Wednesday, 16 November 2022, at the Douala Maritime Museum and was presided over by the General Manager of the Cameroon National Shippers' Council (CNSC), Mr. Auguste Mbappe Penda. By way of reminder, this sub-committee is headed by the CNSC with Mr. Auguste Mbappe Penda as its chair.

 

The workshop mainly aims at building the capacity of the members of the sub-committee to further enlighten them on issues pertaining to the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and to enable them carry out the missions assigned to the Ad-Hoc sub-committee. Mr. Alex Nkondje, CNSC Director for Trade Facilitation and Transport Observatory and a member of the Sub-Committee, moderated the session and led the discussions.

 

In his presentation, Mr. Etienne Cham, CNSC Sub-Director for Foreign Trade Promotion and Coordinator of the said Sub-Committee, gave an overview of the origins of the AfCFTA and the context of its implementation to help participants better understand this shared vision of the African continent. The second presentation which was done by Mr. David Um Batta, Senior Customs Inspector, elaborated on the different trade facilitation tools proposed by the AfCFTA.
